You may have noticed that you did not receive your Sunday edition of Family Fun from Macaroni Kid. That's because we're moving to Thursdays! Based on reader feedback, many of you have said that you'd like earlier notice to the weekend's events. Well, you got it! Welcome to the Thursday edition of the Macaroni Kid Plymouth's eNewsletter.

Monday is Memorial Day. A day we observe to honor all those who died serving our country in the military. Tradition calls for cleaning up and decorating the grave sites of those who died serving, as well as wearing poppies in remembrance and support. It's also the official, unofficial, kick-off to summer. For many, it's also a time to reflect and spend time with those that we love. Here are a few ways we can pay our respects and enjoy quality time with the entire family this holiday weekend.

  • Visit a cemetery. Pay tribute to those who have lost their lives fighting for our country. Place flags and/or flowers on the graves of fallen soldiers. Check out the Memorial Day Celebration at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis as they honor veterans, provide historical tours, and more.
  • Make a Poppy craft. The poppy is the official flower of Memorial Day. Check out this cute painted coffee filter poppy craft we found on Pinterest. It's easy and perfect for kids of all ages.
  • Have a picnic. As of now, the weather calls for 80 degrees and lots of sunshine! Dining alfresco in the grass and under the sun is a foolproof afternoon. Planning for the outing can be an activity in and of itself. Older kiddos can cut up fruit and gather drinks, while the little ones can fold up picnic blankets and pack the basket or cooler. Here's a great infographic on how to pack for the perfect picnic.
