When the game first arrived, my son could not wait to try it. He loves LEGOS, and he loves video games, so a LEGO video games system was right up his alley. It took about 2 days for him to get the hang of the game, but once he did, he was completely hooked! At our party, we had many families join us. The kids ranged in age from a baby who loved the bright colors on the screen to 10 year olds and all ages in-between. All of the kids really seemed to enjoy playing LEGO Dimensions. Oh, and by kids, I also mean grown-up kids. LEGO has expansion packs that will make a grown-up grab a controller and start playing too. A-Team, Simpsons, Mission Impossible, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, Doctor Who and Scooby-Doo are just some of the expansion packs that will appeal to the kids of all ages. There are also many LEGO favorites like characters from The LEGO Movie, DC Comics, Ninjago, Harry Potter, Adventure Time, Jurassic World, and LEGO Chima. Plus, there are additional expansion packs being announced on a pretty regular basis.
The LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack is all players need to begin – build the base and embark on a fantastic quest. The Starter Pack is available for Xbox One®, Xbox 360®, PlayStation® 4, PlayStation®3, Wii™U and retails for $79.99-$89.99. Included in the LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack:
- LEGO Dimensions videogame
- LEGO Toy Pad
- Bricks to build the LEGO Gateway
- 3 LEGO minifigures (Batman, Gandalf, and Wyldstyle)
- LEGO Batmobile vehicle
We all know kids love minifigures! In order to start playing the starter pack or any expansion packs, the first thing kids get to do is build the minifigure heroes and fire-up the game to start the experience. In order to get the instructions to build the vehicles, you must play with the character to unlock the in-game build instructions. For the starter pack, the instructions to assemble the loose bricks into the LEGO Gateway open once you unlock them through in-game play.
You can expand the adventure by collecting more minifigures, vehicles, gadgets, and new levels with the purchase of four different types of expansion packs. One of the most fun parts of LEGO Dimensions is that you can use whatever minifigure with whichever vehicle or gadget in any level!
The expansion pack options include:
- Story Pack: The biggest add-on for the ultimate gamer and Master Builder. Each includes six new game levels, LEGO bricks to build a themed LEGO Gateway to customize the LEGO Toy Pad, two new Toy Pad modes, LEGO minifigure and a LEGO vehicle. Retails for $49.99.
- Level Pack: One new mission-based game level, along with a minifigure, a vehicle and a gadget that players can build and use in-game for access to new areas and more abilities. Retails for $29.99.
- Team Pack: Two minifigures and a vehicle or gadget for each, all with their own in-game abilities. Retails for $24.99.
- Fun Pack: One new minifigure and a vehicle or gadget. Retails for $11.99.
After watching their kids play, and in some cases playing themselves, many parents decidedLEGO Dimensions was going on the holiday wish list this year. My son has added a bunch of the expansion packs to his wish list already. And for those of you who have kids like mine who like LEGOs but LOVE minifigures, just think how many less LEGO pieces you will have around the house to step on! ;) And, for those parents who don't like buying items that will quickly become obsolete, I am thrilled to share that LEGO Dimensions is a system of play providing long-term value with complete compatibility across all expansion packs now and in the future.
And...just in case you are wondering about some of the additional characters you will see added to LEGO Dimensions in the future, here is a sneak peek list of just some of what is coming up next!
